The Dialogue Studio at Greenwood was created from a simple belief:

Meaningful conversations can move communities forward.

Located within the historic Greenwood District of Tulsa, Oklahoma, the project exists at the intersection of storytelling, civic dialogue, cultural preservation, and community healing. More than a podcast studio, The Dialogue Studio is a platform designed to facilitate conversations that foster trust, understanding, and collective progress.

Its partnership with the Greenwood Cultural Center is foundational to that mission.

Why Greenwood matters

Greenwood is one of the most historically significant communities in America.

Once known nationally as "Black Wall Street," the district became a symbol of Black entrepreneurship, resilience, and cultural achievement before the devastation of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Today, Greenwood remains a place of remembrance, reflection, restoration, and forward movement.

The Greenwood Cultural Center has long served as a steward of that legacy — preserving stories, educating future generations, and creating space for community connection and cultural understanding.

The Dialogue Studio was born from that same spirit.

Greenwood is not only a place to remember history. It is also a place to shape the future.

A living cultural platform

The Dialogue Studio extends the mission of the Greenwood Cultural Center into a new media era — using conversation, podcasting, digital storytelling, and public dialogue to engage contemporary audiences in meaningful ways.

Together, the partnership seeks to:

  • preserve lived experiences and community narratives,
  • create space for honest and restorative dialogue,
  • support civic trust and public understanding,
  • amplify underrepresented voices,
  • and transform important conversations into lasting educational and cultural resources.

The project is intentionally rooted in Greenwood because the lessons of Greenwood continue to resonate far beyond Tulsa. The issues at the heart of this work are national conversations:

  • Trust
  • Community
  • Public safety
  • Equity
  • Economic opportunity
  • Healing
  • Civic engagement

The Dialogue Studio creates a framework for having those conversations with humanity, context, and purpose.

More than media

While podcasting serves as a core medium for the project, The Dialogue Studio is designed as a broader community-centered ecosystem that combines:

Facilitated dialogue

Structured, in-person conversations designed to build trust and shared understanding.

Recorded conversations

Long-form audio and video that preserves voice, nuance, and context.

Public education

Programming and resources that translate dialogue into community learning.

Training & facilitation tools

Practical frameworks others can use to host honest conversations of their own.

Oral history preservation

Capturing lived experience and community memory for future generations.

Collaborative civic engagement

Partnerships that connect residents, institutions, and local leadership.

The goal is not simply to produce content. The goal is to create understanding.

Every episode, workshop, interview, and public conversation is intended to contribute to a larger culture of listening, reflection, and constructive engagement.

A space for honest conversation

The Dialogue Studio at Greenwood exists to create conversations that are:

  • Structured
  • Thoughtful
  • Transparent
  • Respectful
  • Rooted in shared humanity

Some discussions may be difficult.

Some may challenge assumptions.

Some may explore unresolved tensions.

But all are guided by a belief that communities become stronger when people are willing to engage one another honestly and with empathy.

In a media landscape increasingly driven by outrage, speed, and division, The Dialogue Studio seeks to create something different: a slower, more intentional space for dialogue that informs, connects, and moves people forward.

Building the future together

The Dialogue Studio at Greenwood is still in its early stages, but its vision is long-term. Future initiatives may include:

Podcast & documentary series
Oral history archives
Public forums & live conversations
Facilitator training programs
Educational partnerships
Youth storytelling initiatives
Collaborative civic programming

At its heart, the project is about preserving stories, strengthening relationships, and helping communities navigate complex conversations together.

Dialogue is not simply communication. It is infrastructure for trust.

And Greenwood has always been a place where history, resilience, and community come together to build what comes next.
